The 100 Mile House & District Figure Skating Club has been having a busy season.
The club recently finished its Facebook fundraiser on Dec. 10, says club president Danyelle Howard.
“The Facebook auction went very well and we made just over $1,700 with all the bidding of the public and the wonderful businesses that generously donated items to make this a wonderful end to 2016.”
Earlier in the year, the club held smaller fundraising activities, such as meat orders, bottles drives and selling chocolate covered pretzels.
They also recently hosted their Santa Skate on Dec. 16 with the StarSkaters, CanSkaters and our CanPowerSkaters.
“It went from 3:30 to 5:30 and the skaters got to Skate with Santa Claus and just have fun.”
Howard and five of the clubs personal assistants, the figure skating club’s helping coaches and star students, were also lucky enough to travel to Vernon on Dec. 4 to watch the Holiday Festival on Ice. The star studded event featured figure skating stars as Kurt Browning, Meryl Davis, Charlie Davis, Ekaterina Gordeeva, Jeffrey Buttle, Yuka Sato, Kaetlyn Osmond, Ryan Bradley and Shawn Sawyer.
“Everyone loved it and had great fun.”
The club will also be starting its CanPowerSkate program on Jan 5. The program lasts for 11 weeks and is designed primarily for hockey and ringette players – stressing balance, power, agility, speed and endurance.
While the club has had competitive figure skaters in the past, Howard says no one is actively competing this year.
“It is a relaxed program, although there might be a few skaters ready for competition in February.”
The club has 55 members registered, ranging from five to 18 years, and it is still welcoming participants.
