30th Anniversary: News carrier luges into Saanich history

Retired Victoria Shamrock lacrosse player and lacrosse media personality Ted Jenner part of Saanich News' history

Seventeen years before he was a Mann Cup national lacrosse champion with the Victoria Shamrocks, Teddy Jenner was just Ted.

He was in Grade 3 at Lochside elementary when his school held a ‘mini Olympics’ celebration and tournament.

Jenner grew up as a Saanich Tigers minor lacrosse player and won the Mann Cup with the Shamrocks in 2005 while also playing pro in the NLL. He became a lacrosse media personality, hosting the Vancouver Stealth’s games, doing radio shows, play-by-play, podcasts, blogs and more. He’s also a yoga instructor in Victoria.

Jenner recalled his time in the Saanich News as a youth.

“As a kid I was always pumped up for the Olympics whether it was summer or winter so when we did the ’88 [mini] Olympics at Lochside I knew I wanted gold! More importantly, when else could you ride a skateboard through the halls and not get in trouble?”

Saanich News was a big part of growing up in Broadmead, they were often at school events but I remember them most for covering the Saanich Tigers. Little known fact, I delivered Saanich News papers for a couple years so I appreciate its place and importance in our community.”
