In keeping with tradition, the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club had plenty of pop Wednesday, August 14 as some 55 female bowlers turned out for the fifth annual Shades of Pink tournament.
The tournament, said event coordinator and club member Janys Milne, (aka Miss Pinkie) is a big event for the club, which raises money in support of Mid-Island cancer care.
“So far we’ve raised almost $5,000, and this year we’ve already raised about $1,400,” Milne said Wednesday morning amidst the sea of pink. “We’re really pleased.”
Oceanside’s most decorated Paralympian and Parksville-Qualicum MLA Michelle Stilwell was on hand to mark the start of the event.
The teams of three played seven six ends game each “so a lot of bowling for these ladies.”
In the mix and clearly enjoying herself was the club’s newest member Merry Danarti who won the Novice Singles championship last week for first year players.
Later in the afternoon there was also bocce and ring toss on the upper level for the general public and those members not playing.
