Kwalikum Secondary went into the Glacier Greens tournament shorthanded but came out with a win thanks to a school record score of 65.
Under windy, rainy and generally nasty conditions the Kondors posted a score of 306 thanks to a six under par 65 by Santiago Bouyra. The Grade 12 standout beat up the par 71 Comox course with nine birdies en route to a tournament low and KSS school record 65, just two off the course record.
“It was an unlikely day to go low but Santi was on fire out there,” said head coach Butch Gayton. “The conditions were terrible and the greens were not running true. It had all the makings for a high scoring day but we were able to keep it close to that magic mark of 300.”
The next lowest score was 73 and only eight other players out of 56 shot in the 70s. The Kondors 306 was their second lowest this year and secured top spot in the 12-team tournament for their third win of the year (the team shot a 297 at the Qualicum Memorial Tournament). Masato Wilson shot a 79 while Tony Trozzo and fill-in Carson Arcurri shot 81 to post the winning 306. The next closest team was Mark Isfeld with 327 and Dover with 339.
The Kondors are hoping to keep it up as they enter the Victoria Police tournament April 29-30 against 25 schools from all over the province.
