The Abbotsford Cardinals are welcoming five other teams to the friendly confines of DeLair Park until Sunday.
Abbotsford is set to be the site for Pool B of the Langley Blaze Invitational junior baseball tournament, which features a total of 13 teams from B.C., Alberta, Ontario and Washington State.
The event kicked off on Wednesday.
The Cardinals host the Victoria Mariners, Okotoks Dawgs, St. Albert Canadians, Victoria Eagles and North Shore Twins for round robin action running today and tomorrow, and DeLair Park also is the site for the tournament semi-final on Sunday.
Abbotsford opened on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the Twins, and then played the Dawgs at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
The teams play a total of five round robin games, with the top two teams facing off in Sunday’s tournament semi-final at noon. The tournament final occurs in Langley at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Teams participating in Pool A at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley include: the North Delta Blue Jays, Langley Blaze, Brampton Royals, Whalley Chiefs, Okanagan Athletics, White Rock Tritons and Bellingham Post 7.
In British Columbia Premier Baseball League action on Saturday, the Cardinals’ game against the Blue Jays was rained out.
The Cardinals sit in ninth place in the 12- team BCPBL with a record of nine wins and 15 losses.
The team returns to action on June 7 in Langley to take on the Blaze. The next home game for the Cardinals is on June 11, when the Nanaimo Pirates come to town for a doubleheader.
