Close to 400 Grade 7 and 8 boys and girls on 33 teams took to the rugby pitches at Fraser Middle School and Yale Secondary on Friday to compete in the annual Abbotsford Rugby Football Club City Sevens Rugby tournament.

Athletes competed in six different divisions for the city titles and tournament trophies. There was a fastest runner competition and most valuable player T-shirts distributed to an impact player from each team.

The Grade 7 girls division saw Clayburn defeat Abby Middle in the final. In the Grade 7 boys final, Fraser Red edged Fraser Black. The Grade 8 girls had two tiers: Fraser Black beat Yorkson in the Tier 1 final, while Fraser Red defeated Howe in the Tier 2 final. The Grade 8 boys Tier 1 final went into overtime, with Yorkson Creek scoring the sudden-death decider to top Fraser Black. In Tier 2, Reimer defeated Clayburn with a last-second try to secure the first place trophy.

The ARFC thanked all coaches, managers, referees, players and supporters who took time from their school day to attend the event, and gave special thanks to Doug Primrose and the Yale Leadership crew.
