The Abbotsford Outlaws U14 girls softball show celebrate after their district win in Langley.

The Abbotsford Outlaws U14 girls softball team are district champions after a strong showing at the district finals at Noel Booth Park in Langley on June 11 and 12.

Abbotsford opened the finals against the host Langley Extreme, and it was the first time the two teams had met this season.

The Outlaws started off quickly, and under the strong offensive play of Alicia Newman and Kyleah Johnson, the girls defeated Langley.

The next game for the Outlaws was the Fraser Valley Venom, who had drawn the bye for the first round.

Abbotsford’s Kirsten Ostrom took to the mound for the Outlaws in this contest, pitching her first no-hitter and being only one walk short of a perfect game against the Venom.

The Outlaws then matched up with the Extreme again for the district title on June 12.

Langley jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Abbotsford tied the game in the third.

Abbotsford’s defensive play prevented the Extreme from getting on the board again, highlighted by a clutch double play by Caitlyn Klassen.

The Outlaws would take a 4-3 lead into the final inning, and on Langley’s final at-bat Abbotsford completed a double play with a runner on second to win the game.

The club now advances to the provincials in July.
