The Abbotsford Panthers senior boys basketball team has captured the 4A Eastern Valley Athletic Association banner.

Abbotsford defeated the Yale Lions 90-79 in the final at the Langley Events Centre on Sunday to capture the top ranking in the region, and will likely enter the upcoming provincial tournament with a high seed.

Karn Brar was named the game’s most valuable player.

The Panthers finished the regular season at a perfect 12-0 in the Western division and beat the W.J. Mouat Hawks 88-64 in the semifinal on Thursday. Yale, who also had a strong season at 10-2, defeated Walnut Grove 85-77 to advance to the final.

The senior boys 4A tournament runs from March 4 to 7 at the LEC. The draw reveal is expected to occur in the near future.

In other action, the Abbotsford Panthers junior boys team bowed out in the quarter-final round on Sunday. Abbotsford fell 74-57 to Kelowna to eliminate the club’s provincial hopes. The juniors opened with a 59-55 win over Centennial on Saturday. The club can still finish as high as fifth if they win out the remainder of their games.

The junior girls team features the MEI Eagles, Yale and the Bateman Timberwolves all battling it out.
