The B.C. Rugby Club Finals run all day on Saturday at the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club, and the Abbotsford Rugby Football Club will be well represented.
Both the ARFC men’s and women’s division one teams battle for a provincial title, with the women challenging Nanaimo at 11:45 a.m., and the men battling Bayside at 12:45 p.m.
The men finished the regular season in third place in division one play, with a record of 6-4. They’ll be battling the top-ranked Bayside, which finished at 9-1. The two teams last met on April 13, with Bayside downing Abbotsford 38-3 in South Surrey.
However, ARFC was also the only team to defeat Bayside this season, downing the team 37-17 on Sept. 22 in Abbotsford. The men qualified for the final with a 32-28 win over the Surrey Beavers on April 27.
The women are aiming to continue a perfect season, as they finished the regular season at 6-0, and allowed just 82 points in those wins. Nanaimo finished second in women’s division one at 5-2. The two teams did not meet in the regular season. The women qualified for the final with a big 70-24 win over Cowichan on April 28.
The pair of games are two of eight club finals games on Saturday. Admission to the event is $10, and there will be food trucks and a beer garden on hand.
Matches on Field 2, which include the men’s division one final, will be live-streamed on sportscanada.tv.
ARFC executive member Dilpreet Chahal urged all Abbotsford rugby fans to make the trip to Burnaby and cheer on the locals.
