Abbotsford senior boys basketball teams head to provincials

Abbotsford Senior, Yale, MEI and ACS competing in Langley at provincials

After a weekend full of girls basketball action, the spotlight now shines on the senior boys basketball teams all across B.C.

Action at the Langley Events Centre starts today (Wednesday), with all four tiers tipping off.

Abbotsford is once again well-represented at the four-day event, and several local teams could be in the mix for a provincial title.

The Abbotsford Panthers enter the tournament seeded fifth in the 4A, and open the event today at 11:45 a.m. against the 12th seeded Terry Fox Ravens.

The Panthers took home the Eastern Valley Athletic Association banner back on Feb. 23, and finished a perfect 12-0 in regular season play.

The Yale Lions have also qualified for the 4A tournament, and enter seeded 10th in the province. Yale takes on the seventh seeded Handsworth this evening at 6:15 p.m.

Yale finished the EVAA regular season at 10-2, but fell to the Panthers in the final.

The 4A championship game tips off on Saturday at 8:15 p.m.

The MEI Eagles are the lone Abbotsford representative in the 3A tournament, and they enter the event ranked 15th. MEI takes on the second seeded Vernon Panthers tonight at 6:15 p.m.

The 3A final begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The Abbotsford Christian Knights will be the only local hope in the 2A tournament, and ACS opens this morning at 10 a.m. against Surrey Christian. The Knights occupy the fifth seed at the event. The 2A title game is set for 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
