Abbotsford wrestlers excel at provincials

Local grapplers from five different school reach the podium in Langley

Abbotsford high school wrestlers took home top marks at the British Columbia Secondary School Wrestling Association provincials, which wrapped up on Tuesday at the Langley Events Centre.

W.J. Mouat wrestlers shined the brightest, with the Hawks team finishing sixth overall in the province.

Mouat’s Jade Trolland finished first in the female 64 kilograms division, defeating Cowichan’s Stephanie Mould 10-2 in the first place match. Hawks wrestler Jagvir Grewal also scored a first place showing, winning in the male 41 kg first place match over Lake City Secondary’s Kalub Scaiano.

Mikaela Trolland placed second in the female 60 kg division, after being pinned by Guildford Park’s Kenna Wells-Flanders in the first place match. Other Hawks wrestlers with podium finishers included: Jarawar Dhinsa (fourth, male 78 kg) and Charisma Trolland (fifth, female 57 kg).

Abbotsford Traditional Secondary School also had a strong day at the event, with the Titans finishing 14th overall in the team category.

The male 60 kg final featured an all-Titans clash, with Gagan Grewal pinning Jasdeep Dhillon in the final.

Yale Secondary‘s Armaan Malhi also had an excellent showing, placing second in the male 74 kg. Malhi was the top Lions performer at the event, and was pinned in the final by University Hill Secondary’s Cory Haberman.

The Rick Hansen Secondary Hurricanes also ranked in the team category, finishing 26th overall in the province. Hansen’s performance was highlighted by a pair of third place showings, as Humraj Sandhar (male 57 kg) and Anmol Lidder (male 70 kg) both battled onto the podium.

MEI‘s Jeevan Gill also reached the podium, placing sixth in the male 74 kg division.
