Abbotsford’s Cassie Hull will be continuing her rugby journey in the provincial capital.
The Grade 12 Yale Secondary student made it official on Tuesday (March 16), announcing that she has signed with the University of Victoria Vikes women’s rugby program.
“I’m super excited to play for the UVIC rugby team, I’ve been playing rugby for seven years and it’s amazing to see the opportunities it brings you,” she told The News. “I’m really looking forward to being a part of this team and continuing my rugby career there.”
Hull, a 5-4 scrum-half or centre, will join the club this fall.
She played locally for both the Yale girls team and the Abbotsford Rugby Football Club. Hull also represented B.C. on the U16 girls team at the USA Sevens Las Vegas Invitational back in 2018. Hull was part of a Yale squad that finished third in provincials in 2017 and 2018 and also finished first in the Abbotsford city tournament.

She went on to help the Surrey-based Bayside Sharks junior girls team team win the North Island High School Sevens Championships in New Zealand back in 2019. Hull also competed at the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games in the sport of 3-on-3 basketball.
Hull joins a Vikes team that has a notable Abbotsford flavour to it. The 2020 team had four Abbotsford talents on the squad in Tayler Bailey, Robyn Ellis, Kira Peary and Shalaya Valenzuela. W.J. Mouat’s Mariam Ibrahim also signed with the program back in December.

The Vikes captured the Canada West title for the third straight season in early-2020. The nationals were unable to occur that year due to the pandemic, but the school did win national crowns in 2017 and 2019. The club is expected to return to the pitch in September.
