The Acme Timbermen handled the challenge of back-to-back games to keep up their winning ways.
The Nanaimo Timbermen senior B lacrosse team won both its weekend games at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, defeating the North Shore Indians 17-8 on Saturday and then beating the Langley Warriors 14-6 on Sunday.
The Indians are an improved team this season, but the Acme Painting T-men won comfortably and then overmatched the Warriors the next day even without playing their best game.
“We’re trying not to play to the other team’s level,” said Aaron Vanderhorst, T-men veteran. “We’re still struggling with putting together a full 60 minutes but we’re doing enough to win and most of the time we win handily.”
Mike Maughan, the team’s coach, said he’s asking his guys to play a complete game, with strength on offence, defence and goaltending.
“We’re trying to be as sharp as we can all the way through the game and not have as many lulls, or defensive letdowns or bad penalties, things like that,” Maughan said.
In the win over the Indians, Blair Pinnock scored four goals and Kyle Noble had a hat trick. Rick Fields, Dylan Benard and Shane Chalker had two goals each and Jon Diplock and Russell Thomas each contributed a goal and three helpers. Joey Fendick and Nick Agius were the other scorers and Danny Walters earned the win.
Pinnock had another four-goal game on Sunday and Noble had two goals and three assists. Fields, Diplock and Cody Keating scored two goals apiece, Isaac Thomas and Graeme Ross also tallied and Pat Mallough was the winning goalie.
