The Vancouver Island Society for Adaptive Snowsports (VISAS) will be promoting its program to the community at its annual Awareness Day fundraiser, March 3 at Mount Washington.
The non-profit charity introduces skiing and snowboarding to individuals six years and older with physical and/or developmental challenges.
The event has undergone various changes over the years, but always related to founder Herb Bradley. Some people will remember it as the Pepsi challenge, the Coca-Cola challenge or the Poker Run.
This year, VISAS will have a stand in front of the building to promote the organization and to educate the public. Sit-skis will be displayed, along with other equipment that helps students learn to ski. There will also be a silent auction and a raffle draw.
Money that is raised helps purchase adaptive equipment and supports instructor training.
The public is invited to see what VISAS is all about at a fun race course that will be set-up by the Tube Park Carpet from 10 a.m. to noon.
The society relies solely on fund-raising for its income. Monetary donations can be made at the event or at www.visasweb.ca/donations. Tax receipts will be mailed.
