The Terrace Adult Hockey League is running online registration this year, and teams are filling up fast.
With eight rec teams and five oldtimers (35+), League President Steve Smyth says the rosters fill up fast, especially with a new crop of minor hockey graduates every year.
“This year already we’ve got quite a few players signed up that weren’t on teams last year,” Smyth said. “Our challenge is going to be to try and find as many places for them to play as possible.”
Teams start out with the same rosters as last year, and newcomers are incorporated into vacant spots from people who were injured, moved or are taking a year off from the league.
Open to men and women, Smyth says players who cannot fit on teams are put on a waiting list, and can sometimes join a team part-way through the year if someone is injured or moves away.
The number of teams, eight for the rec league and five for the oldtimers, is restricted by available ice time.
“Every year we have requests from people to bring in another team…sadly, we can’t accommodate them,” said Smyth.
Balanced so that the win is always up for grabs, teams will hit the ice mid-September.
Smyth says the rec league features a high level of play, with many former Terrace Rep and River Kings. The oldtimers division has no slapshots and plays a less competitive game.
Early bird registration for the teams is open until September 5 and after the price goes up.
