Chilliwack FC’s U-18 Gold Attack won a Coastal Cup semi-final match against South Burnaby Metro last weekend, punching their ticket to July’s Provincial B Cup tournament in Penticton.
The 3-0 win was the team’s fourth consecutive victory in knockout games, and they are the only Chilliwack team to qualify for provincials this year.
The Attack led 1-0 through one half on a goal by striker Cole Ewart, set up by a Justin Stanton cross into the 18-yard box.
Starting the second half, midfielder Jeff Janz fed a great pass to Connor MacMillan, who finished the play for a 2-0 lead.
Stanton finished the scoring on a breakaway.
Chilliwack’s midfield (Branden Klassen, Gerrid Crowe, Justin Williams and Chris VanDer Werff) was dominant and forward Zenow Renaerts caused tons of trouble for the Burnaby defence
The defence of Jordan Lam, Patrick Bowie, Kyle Staiger and Ben Ross kept things tidy, and any shots were turned away by keeper Jamie Freeman.
The team next plays in the finals of the Coastal Cup on Apr. 30.
