The Agassiz Harrison Aquanauts are ready to get back in the water.
The local swim team has opened its registration for the 2021 season, and will be in the Ferny Coombe pool from May 2 to August 20.
The Aquanauts had their summer season cut short last year, as the COVID-19 pandemic put a hold on sports-related activities. The swim team got back in the water in late June and were able to practice in the Ferny Coombe pool until August, although there were no regional swim meets.
The team’s COVID-19 policies meant that no parents were able to watch the practices from the pool deck. Instead, they were asked to wait in their cars or watch from outside the pool area while keeping their distance from other parents.

Swimmers were also asked to wear their swimsuits home after practice, as they had to leave the pool deck by the bleachers instead of through the change rooms.
In the pool, swimmers also kept up social distancing, with two people allowed in each lane, starting from opposite ends of the pool.
The team will continue to adhere to the province’s health and safety guidelines for this year’s season.
Because of that, spots on the swim team will be limited. Although swimmers can go on a wait list for their particular age group, spots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis.
Kids between the ages of four and 18 are able to sign up, and those wanting to be on the team must be able to swim 25m unassisted. Adults interested in coaching are also able to register for the season.
The swim meet will be in the Ferny Coombe pool five days a week between the start of May and the end of August.
Registrations kicked off on March 15, and families can sign up through the team’s Facebook page.
