Alberni Youth Soccer U10 and U11 Rep teams competed the last weekend of spring break in a jamboree hosted by Comox Valley United Soccer.
The U10 squad had an impressive start to the day by shutting out the opposition in their first game. The next two games for the U10s were against two different Comox select teams. These games proved to be more challenging but the Alberni team kept up a great effort. Despite being down on the scoreboard the Alberni team worked extremely hard and finished each game strong which showed a lot of character in the young kids.
The U11 team started the day with a definitive win over their opponents. The players took control of the game but also benefitted from some timely and quite spectacular saves from their keeper. Their second game was back and forth and the Alberni team played their best game of the day despite a loss due to two late goals by the Comox team. In their third and final game, Alberni couldn’t quite find a rhythm against a strong Comox select team. The strong Comox team exposed some areas the Alberni team will address through practice in the coming weeks.
Both the U10 and U11 teams represented Alberni Youth Soccer extremely well. Even with unfavourable weather the kids enjoyed the games and they will continue to improve with each of these competitive experiences. This team has really focused on the development of the player and individual. They have all come a long way this year with their skills and confidence on the field.
The team continues to practice and have some exhibition matches in April before competing in the highly anticipated Mini World Cup in Campbell River May 13-14 and then winding up their year participating in a Victoria Highlanders game and training with the Highlanders.
