It was a long dry spell but the Aldergrove Kodiaks finally broke their losing streak Wednesday night with a 5-0 blanking of the visiting Grandview Steelers.
The win improved the Kodiaks to 21 points after 27 games and put them back into the top four in the Harold Brittain conference.
The Steelers managed to outshoot the Kodiaks in the first period but keeper Michael Lauriente held them at bay with the help of a strong Kodiaks defense that did their best to keep the puck at the Steelers’ end.
The Kodiaks turned on the taps in the second period with a pair of goals that put them up 2-0. Scoring were Davin Padgha and Arjan Cheema, with both assisted by Matt Oliver and Kyle Bosko.
In the third period the Kodiaks piled on three more for the win. Scoring were Oliver, Austin Cook (unassisted, on a power play) and Bosko, with assists from Bosky, Clayton Schroeder, Arjan Cheema and Ty Pickering.
The Kodiaks outshot the Steelers 38-30 that night, and scored on one of seven power plays while successfully killing three penalties.
Game stars were Lauriente, Oliver and Bosko.
The Kodiaks’ remaining games this month are away at North Vancouver Wolf Pack on Dec. 22, and a home game against the Delta Ice Hawks, Wednesday, Dec. 27, 7:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena.
