It was a great night for the Aldergrove Kodiaks as the team bested the visiting Mission City Outlaws 3-1 at Aldergrove Arena, Nov. 1.
It was also a great night for Kodiaks captain Matt Oliver and assistant captain Kyle Bosko, with the two teammates earning the game’s first and second stars for the winning pair of unanswered goals in the second and third periods.
Kodiak Tyler Cannon opened the scoring that night early in the first period, with assists from Dayton Spink and Ty Pickering. Eight minutes later Mission’s Haydn Downing scored the equalizer to close the period at a 1-1 tie.
At just 1:36 in the second period Oliver scored a short-handed goal for the Kodiaks, assisted by Bosky and Arjan Cheema, to put the team up 2-1.
And at 13:54 in the third period Oliver scored his second goal of the night, assisted by Bosky and Davin Padgham, for the 3-1 win. The Outlaws upped the pressure in the third period, pulling their goalie for the man advantage, but to no avail.
The Kodiaks outshot the Outlaws 33-28 that night, and neither team scored on their power plays, with six for the Outlaws and five for the Kodiaks.
The result puts the Kodiaks at 16 points after 16 games (7-7-0-2).
Oliver currently sits at second place in the league leaders with 31 points after 16 games, while Bosko is seventh with 24 points after 16 games. Abbotsford Pilots’ Baylee Wright leads with 40 points.
The Kodiaks travel to Richmond Nov. 2 to play the Sockeyes, and to Burnaby Nov. 5 to play the Grandview Steelers.
Their next home game is against the Delta Ice Hawks, the league’s leading team with 30 points after 16 games, Wednesday, Nov. 8, 7:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Arena.
