Traditionally a rugby school this is Aldergrove Community Secondary School’s first ever qualification into provincial play in soccer.
The team is very excited to be opening new doors for the school and community. The Totems posted a 6-1-1 record in league play to win the Langley division this season and had to battle against two very strong teams in Samuel Robertson Technical school, a 2-1 overtime win, and Delview, a 1-0 penalty kicks win in the Fraser Valley play offs, to advance to the final against a very talented Arch Bishop Carney team. Aldergrove competed in the first half, being down 1-0, only to fade in the second half, losing by a final tally of 5-0.
“Knowing anything can happen in tournament play, Aldergrove is looking forward to take on the province’s best AA high school soccer programs and starting a new tradition at the school,” said coach Brian Hunter.
The provincials begin Monday, Nov. 19 at Burnaby Lake Athletic Complex, with Aldergrove set to play in Pool B against Sentinel, LV Rogers and Okanagan Mission in the opening rounds. The finals will be played on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 21, with awards presentations to follow.
