WorkSafeBC is reminding bars, pubs, and restaurants to ensure their COVID-19 safety plans are up to date and followed to the letter ahead of Super Bowl Sunday.
Al Johnson, head of prevention services for WorkSafeBC, said events like the Super Bowl are typically some of the busiest days of the year for establishments.
“We’re urging businesses to revisit their safety plan to make sure it will be effective, as there could be an increase in patrons,” Johnson said.
WorkSafeBC has focused additional province-wide inspection and consultation efforts this week in advance of the Super Bowl.
This work serves to remind businesses that they must have the required measures and controls in place to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in the workplace.
Jeff Paul, Owner of Fox and Hounds pub in Aldergrove, said there will be party events, customer draw, or any kind of program during the game.
“We’re open, just like a regular day, but we have restricted our capacity and have limited seating,” Paul explained. “We follow along, whether we like the restrictions or not. We want to stay open and keep people employed.”
Paul explained that Fox and Hounds has been airing playoff games on the TV’s throughout the playoffs and will have the Superbowl on.
“We expect enforcement to make sure we are following guidelines on Sunday, but were not worried because we have been following the rules,” he noted.

All employers in B.C. are required to have a COVID-19 Safety Plan in place that assesses the risks to workers and implements measures to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in the workplace.
The plan must be reviewed and updated as conditions change.
Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers go head-to-head for Super Bowl LV at 3:30 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 7.
