The 2017 North American Indigenous Games are less than a year away and the Team BC 2017 NAIG selection process has already begun.
The BC Aboriginal Provincial Championships and Sport Development Camps serve as a primary component of the talent identification and selection processes for athletes to represent Team BC at the July 16-23 NAIG.
With the games fast approaching, there is a lot of information that needs to be shared between Team BC and its athletes. The Soaring Raven (view at Aboriginal Sport, Recreation & Physical Activity Partners Council) will be a primary source for information and updates regarding upcoming Team BC Provincial Championships, Sport Development Camps and selection applications.
The Aboriginal Sport, Recreation & Physical Activity Partners Council began its Team BC 2017 NAIG selection process in August, beginning with the 2016 BC Aboriginal Golf Championships, the 2016 BC Aboriginal Soccer Championships, and the 2016 BC Aboriginal Lacrosse Camp.
The 2016 BC Aboriginal Provincial Golf Championships took place at the Talking Rock Golf Course in Chase, B.C. A total of nine athletes attended the event, competing in the U14, U16 and U19 age categories.
The championships served as a talent identification event for the U17 and U19 age categories. Athletes were nominated to a Team BC Development Squad, including Alexander Webber of Comox in U19 male. The final selection for the 2017 NAIG will take place in the spring of 2017.
In soccer, a Vancouver Island U16 team won the B.C. championship, Aug. 26-28 in Prince George, and will represent the province in Toronto.
