All the city’s high school basketball all-stars were able to end off hoops season with one more win.
The North teams swept the Vancouver Island Seniors Classic All-Star Games on April 2 at the University of Victoria. In the boys’ A game, North beat South 80-68; in the boys’ B game, North won 81-64 and in the girls’ game, North won 81-61.
Wellington Secondary School’s Olivia Mjaaland was MVP of the girls’ all-star game, scoring 21 points. Natasha Jensen of Nanaimo District added seven.
In the boys’ A game, Hayden Jeffrey of Wellington was the top Nanaimo scorer with 14 points. Max Reed and Callum Gemma of NDSS and Jordan Cox of Woodlands were other contributors.
In the boys’ B game, Max McKay of Woodlands was top Nanaimo scorer with eight points. Daniel Goodman of Wellington and Mike Wyse of John Barsby also contributed.
The event has been held annually since 1988.
