West Vancouver’s Ella Renzoni, representing Vancouver Squamish, won the gold in the girls giant slalom races Sunday morning. She finished with a score of 44.63.
Rossland’s Kaysa Panke finished second with 45.7, but was followed closely behind by Vancouver’s Meg Swaffield who placed third with 45.91.
The event, which began Saturday, was suspended around 2 p.m. after heavy snowfall created unsafe conditions for the BC Games competitors on Hemlock mountain.
The boys giant slalom competition didn’t even get a chance to take off Saturday, and is scheduled to run Sunday, along with the ski cross races.
About 20 cm of snow fell overnight at Hemlock and crews worked for 12 hours beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday night, to prepare the course for Sunday morning, said Kevin Bourdin, general manager of Hemlock.
“It’s been snowing non-stop,” added Bourdin, predicting the second half of the ski season at Hemlock will be “fantastic.”
