Blustery winds and a few tough hole locations prevented scores from going too low at the Callaway Interior Professional Golfers Association Tour stop Monday at Spallumcheen.
But they didn’t stop Rob Anderson.
The pro from the Kelowna Golf and Country Club lit up the closing holes to shoot a 7-under par 65 and win the $3,000 event by three shots over host club pro Myles Johnson in a field of 28.
“Rob birdied four of the last five holes, and I had five birdies but two bogeys on the day,” said Johnson.
Anderson collected $500.
Three golfers ended up tied for third: Dale Machesney from Salmon Arm, former Spall pro Dean Claggett of Two Eagles in West Kelowna, and Ty Babkirk from Summerland.
Claggett’s result should keep him atop the tour’s Order of Merit.
Entering play Monday, Claggett had amassed 288 total points through nine events. Anderson was second with 261.5 points and Hillview’s Keith Vandenbrink was third at 207.
Johnson started play Monday in seventh spot in the Order of Merit with 168 points.
Next Tour stop goes Monday, Sept. 19 at the Kelowna Springs Golf Club. The purse is $3,000.
The $5,000 Tour Championship goes Monday, Sept. 26 at Canoe Creek.
Vandenbrink won the pro portion of the Nk’Mip Canyon Golf Course Men’s Open in Oliver last weekend, collecting $750.
He opened with a 4-under 68 (34-34) and followed up with a 71 (33-38) Sunday to win by seven strokes in a field of 16.
“The putter was rolling the ball really well so the putts were low,” said Vandenbrink.
