With the weather now warming up, the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club wrapped up its indoor lawn bowling over the weekend and gets ready to move outdoors.

It held its annual Quality Foods Open Indoor Mixed Triples Tournament. It had a full complement of 12 teams, made up of bowlers from Qualicum Beach, Parksville, Nanaimo and one team from Victoria.

The teams were split into two sections with each one having to play five games in a round robin format over two days. The triples started on Saturday (March 30) and ended on Sunday.

The top two teams from each section battled for the top honours. The trio from Victoria of Brent Jansen, David Gardner and Bobbi-Jean Charlton denied the combined Qualicum Beach-Parksville trio of Ken Welwood, Janice Baird and Merry Danarti from keeping the title close to home.

Third place went to Qualicum Beach trio of Mick Banks, Doug Ives and Liz Prndleton, who beat the Qualicum Beach team of John Eyre, Keith Rigg and Dawn Rigg.

Mick Banks, the club’s spokesperson said, “it was a well matched competition which brought an end to the winter indoor session. We can now look forward to bowling outdoors from May until October.”

The club will host their annual Open House April 27-28. This will give an opportunity for those who never played lawn bowling a chance to try it out.
