Another district track and field meet in the books

Students from around the city compete in annual school event

Athletes throughout school district braved less than favourable weather conditions Thursday and Friday for the annual SD27 District Track and Field Meet.

The weather was cool, and somewhat damp, Friday for the main portion of the meet, which featured long jump, triple jump, shot putt, and the 100-metre and 400-metre races. Students in grades 4-6 were eligible to compete.

Thursday afternoon saw athletes race the 1,000-metre run in both girls and boys aged 9-12 divisions.

Friday’s competition showcased more than 300 students, who converged at both Columneetza and Nesika after each qualified through their own individual school’s respective meets.

Many volunteers, parents and teachers, meanwhile, helped ensure the event ran smoothly timing events, monitoring the start lines and recording jumping and throwing distances.
