A’s split with Reds to open season, home to Jays Saturday

Okanagan off . 500 start in 2016 B.C. Premier Baseball League season

The Okanagan Athletics will kick off a 12-game B.C. Premier Baseball League homestand

this weekend at Elks Stadium.

On Saturday, in their 2016 home openers, the A’s will host the North Delta Blue Jays at 2 and 4:30 p.m.

The teams will meet again for a doubleheader on Sunday.

Evan Bailey’s club kicked off new PBL campaign on the weekend in Coquitlam with a split of four games against the Reds.

In Saturday’s opener, the A’s were the victims of a no-hitter by Indigo Diaz as the Reds won 3-0.

In the second game of the day, Okanagan rebounded for an 8-1 win. Austin Brown tossed a one-hitter in five innings of work for the victory.

San Avila led the offence with  two hits, an RBI, three runs scored an a stolen base.

On Sunday, the Reds squeezed out a 2-1 victory in the morning game.

Matt Brodt pitched a solid six innings but was tagged with the loss. Avila had three of the Okanagan’s five hits.

In the weekend finale, the A’s rebounded for a 5-1 win. David Tongue tossed a complete game five-hitter for the win.

McCoy Pearce paced the offence with two hits and two runs scored, while Mitchell Rennie drove in two runs and Brendan Coulter went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
