A’s take 2 from Jays, Eagles up next

Okanagan Athletics even record at 3-3, host Victoria Saturday in Premier Baseball League play

After a slow start to the 2017 Premier Baseball season, the Okanagan Athletics got on track with a pair of wins on the road.

On Saturday at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley, the A’s took both ends of a doubleheader from the North Delta Blue Jays.

In the opener, Keaton Mandryk fanned 10 batters over six innings in an 8-5 Athletics win. Kade Kozak paced the offense with two hits and three RBIs, while Owen Alstad went 3-for-4 with a run batted in.

In Game 2, rookie Carter Morris threw 6 1/3 innings of shutout ball for his second win to lead the A’s to a 5-0 victory.

Kozak again led the way with two hits, a stolen base and an RBI. Jackson Borne and Marcus Strother each had a pair of hits, while Mason Glowacki had a two-run double to spark a three-run second inning.

Sunday’s games against the Jays at Mackie Park were postponed due to rain.

The Athletics, now 3-3, will play host to the Victoria Eagles this weekend. The teams will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at Elks Stadium.
