The South Okanagan Minor Baseball Association mosquito (under-11) A’s are champs.

The A’s topped the Penticton Tigers 6-3 on June 19 to win the playoffs.

“The win is an entire team effort, and I’m so very proud of each of the boys on our team,” said A’s coach Alison Cummings. “They played great offensively and defensively over all three games. They came to win, and win they did.”

The A’s went from being at the bottom of the division to No. 1 with a group half comprised of first-year players. Standout first-year pitchers were Andon Cummings and Jamie Yost, the second year pitchers are Connor Seeley (never previously played) and Cody Thompson. Cummings said the most improved rookie pitchers were Braxton Becker and Simon Bowland, as well as second-year  Owen McCrae.

The big hitters for the A’s were Noah Gabriel and Cody Thompson, while Yost and Becker were the most consistent base runners. Their best base stealers were Andon Cummings, Becker and Thompson. Cummings also praised those in the catchers role in Thompson, Andon Cummings, Bowland and Seeley.

“Every one of the boys has contributed to the win, as they all play every position (except for catcher/pitcher),” said Cummings.

Also making up the A’s were Dylan Dunnigan, Grady Parsons, Cohen Sykut-Finnsson and Daylen Gabriel.
