The Clearwater Atom Recreation team finished off its league on the weekend of Feb. 11 and 12 by playing their semi-finals games against Merritt. They had to be in Merritt for one game and then in Clearwater for the other. Unfortunately they did not win their games but as you watch these kids on the ice the improvements that they have made with their passing and skating skills are tremendous.
They are not a huge team and every player out there on the ice must do their part to keep the puck away from their opponent. They are an amusing group of kids as they get ready for a game, you would understand why kids like being on a team. The music turns on and they start their warm-up. It is a great comedy act but it is also a great team builder.
This season the Atom Recreation had three other opposing teams to play: Merritt, Logan Lake and Lillooet. For the Atom Recreation this was the first year that the division had a Super League to play in. This meant for the team that they were guaranteed to have other teams to play for the season and the parents knew in advance their child’s schedule.
The players would like to thank their coaches, Gene Griffin and Jessica Gunn, for volunteering their time to help them on and off the ice and their parents for getting to practices and games.
