It was a week with a possible six points in the standings, and the Heat picked up four of them.
The race to the finish carries on as 100 Mile, Sicamous and Chase fight for playoff seedings. The Heat remain in third, two points in arrears of 100 Mile with a game in hand.
The story of the week started on Tuesday the 4th with the Revelstoke Grizzlies visiting Art Holding Memorial Arena. The Mad Bears got on the board first but that is all Jake Mattes would allow as he stopped 31 of 32 shots. Cody Koskimaki had a big night with a hat trick, one in each of the three periods. Jordan Passmore had a pair with singles going to Cody Hodges and Connor Venne. The final, 7-1 for the Heat.
The Heat travelled to the South Okanagan to take on the Osoyoos Coyotes on Saturday the 8th.
The Dogs took a two-goal lead in the 1st, the teams exchanged goals in the second with Alex Durbeniuk doing the damage and, late in the 3rd, Kaleb Boyle popped one in to make it close in a 3-2 road loss. Mattes stopped 41 of 44 shots he faced.
Further west the team travelled to Princeton on Sunday the 9th to skate with the Posse on the hard water.
Both teams exchanged two goals in the 1st with Venne and Koskimaki scoring for the Heat. In the 2nd, Chase got two goals from Venne for his hat trick and one from Kiefer Schaufler, and then let the Vigilantes back in the game in the 3rd.
In double overtime, Chad Wilde found the Posse twine and this one ended 6-5 and made the bus ride home enjoyable. Mattes stopped 45 of 50 fired his way.
Next up is a home-and-away series with the Sicamous Eagles – a potential lovefest in the Houseboat Capital on Friday the 14th, and then Saturday the 15th may be all right for fighting in the local rink. Two must-see contests, and then Sunday the 16th at 6 p.m., the Annual Awards Banquet at the community hall. Tickets are $20, and you can buy on the 15th at the rink or by calling 778-220-6955.
