B.C. title defense on track for Owls

Defending BC champion KSS romps over Penticton in valley final to secure spot at provincials next week in Langley

Four more wins.

That’s what stands between Harry Parmar’s KSS Owls and a second straight B.C. 4A boys high school basketball title.

The Owls booked a spot at next week’s provincial championship in Langley after winning their fourth consecutive Okanagan Valley title Saturday night in Penticton.

Mason Bourcier scored 28 points to lead the Owls to an 86-53 victory over the Pen Hi Lakers in the valley final.

Bourcier was named MVP of the valleys, while Owen Keyes and Matt Williamson were named to the first all-star team.

Parmar, in his 10th season as KSS coach, said his club is healthy and in a good frame of mind heading into provincials.

“It’s nice to get to this stage of the season and be healthy,” said Parmar. “We’ve had so many practises and games this season, it’s good for the kids to be down to the last four games to see if we can do this again.”

With only Bourcier earning experience as a starter at last year’s provincial championship, Parmar said the rest of his team will need to adjust to the atmosphere at the Langley Events Centre.

“We want to go down there relaxed and just take it one play, and one game at a time. The arena setting is different, so we want our guys to get settled in in the early games.”

The Owls big nemesis this season has been the No. 1 Walnut Grove Gators who have beaten KSS in all four meetings this season.

Whether KSS gets one more crack the Gators at provincials, Parmar said the Owls have but one goal in mind next week.

“It’s our trophy and we’re going down there with the mindset that we want to bring it right back here.”

The B.C. 4A championship runs March 8 to 11.

In the bronze medal game at valleys, the Mt. Boucherie Bears defeated Salmon Arm to take third place.
