Baddest of the baddest

The Schulte Race Team (SRT) from Black Creek has resumed its reign of terror on the Lower Mainland at Mission Raceway with their 1,200 horsepower '05 Cavalier drag race car. The husband and wife team won the 2017 Canada West Doorslammer Championship and is defending their title in 2018.

The Schulte Race Team (SRT) from Black Creek has resumed its reign of terror on the Lower Mainland at Mission Raceway with their 1,200 horsepower ’05 Cavalier drag race car. The husband and wife team won the 2017 Canada West Doorslammer Championship and is defending their title in 2018.

So far the SRT is sitting tied for third place in the Doorslammer points after the first two races of the eight-race series. They bowed out in the second round in the first race of the season but managed to battle to the finals for a second-place finish on the second race weekend.

The team also made the trip to Nitro Raceway in Prince George to participate in the inaugural ‘North versus South’ race of the ’24 of the Baddest Door Cars in Western Canada.’ Joining the 12 quick cars invited from the South, SRT dominated the field taking the win and the new crown back to the south, and back to Vancouver Island.

“It was a long haul up to Prince George from the Island, but well worth it,” driver Otto Schulte said. “We had a great time and enjoyed the friendly but fierce competition. The people there were amazing and the volunteers at the track bent over backwards for us all. Our car ran incredibly well and I did good too as a driver, so we were fortunate to bring the title home to the island. You know, I think that track would be a great model for the drag strip being proposed for here on Vancouver Island at the Campbell River Airport. Maybe someday we can host that race right here. It really draws in spectators.”

Not only did the senior Schulte Race Team do well on the Mainland, but grandson Eddie Schulte stayed on Vancouver Island to participate in his first season with the Vancouver Island Motocross Association. During his fourth outing, he managed to make the podium in Port Hardy placing third in the 6-8 year old 50cc class. It seems that Eddie has inherited that competitive spirit of his Papa (grandfather).

“We were able to go watch Eddie in Port Alberni a few weeks back,” Leslie Schulte said. “It’s amazing watching our grandson growing up and now racing motorcycles. Wow!”

The SRT thanks their local sponsors Associated Tire, Odlum Brown Limited, Quality DeSigns, E&B Helicopters, Lordco Auto Parts and NexGen Hearing.
