Tyrell Mappin netted the winner and Cale Makar had a three-point night as the Brooks Bandits shutout the Portage Terriers 5-0 Wednesday at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
The win books the Alberta Junior Hockey League champs into the championship game of the Western Canada Cup. The the Bandits finished 4-0 with 11 points and atop the standings.
The Bandits, champions from the Alberta Junior Hockey League, opened the scoring at 7:28 when Oliver Chau set up Mappin. Just over six minutes later, captain Nick Prkusic doubled their lead with a shorthanded goal.
The Bandits power play was a force going three-for five, on goals by Conner Jean assisted by Makar, and two by Makar at 11:48 and then 13:46. The first came on a five-on-three man advantage.

In the final frame, the Bandits outshot the Terriers 14-6. Bandits goalie Mitchel Benson made 19 saves, nine of which were in the first period.
Preliminary action in the WCC wraps up with the Battlefords North Stars playing the Chilliwack Chiefs at 2 p.m. then the Penticton Vees will face the Terriers at 7 p.m.
