With injuries wreaking havoc on the Penticton Harlequins, John Cannon wasn’t overly concerned with results during the SunFest tournament they hosted on the weekend.
Cannon, the Harlequins coach, wasn’t upset that they were winless in three games.
“To a certain degree we were taking care of bodies with the fact the Okanagan championship is next weekend,” said Cannon. “From a performance perspective, I think the biggest thing is especially from the tournament structure, is making sure that everyone had fun.”
Cannon said there wasn’t a lot to take out of the tournament.
“There was some good performances,” said Cannon, adding they have welcomed new players. “We viewed it as an opportunity to gel.”
Gibson’s defeated Grand Forks in the final and the feedback Cannon received from visiting teams was good. Cannon said they would like to see the tournament grow and added what makes it a success is that teams enjoy coming and the calibre of play is strong.
“As long as we can maintain what we’re doing, maybe also try and get more teams in the future,” he said.
