It has already been a banner year for Oceanside’s Midget Rep Generals, but the focus has now shifted to the second season.
Oceanside closed out the regular season last Sunday on home ice as part of the local minor hockey jamboree with a feisty 2-2 tie against the Juan de Fuca Grizzlies. They were presented the banner that will be hung from the rafters with care for winning the Vancouver Island Tier 1 league title — the first local Midget Rep team to do so.
Sunday’s tilt, team manager Glenn Wilson said after, was “one of those games where we carried the play in the first (period) but came out with a 1-1 draw.”
Daylin Ohs (Reed Kyle, Jason Gottfried) opened the scoring for the Generals on the power play.
Oceanside had the jump to start the second half, and Ohs upped it to 2-1 off a pass from James Sneddon, “however, penalty trouble in the third cost us the tying goal.”
OMHA is a Tier 2 organization based on enrolment numbers, which means the local squad of 15-17 year olds will ‘drop down’ to Tier 2 for the playoffs.
