The Bantam Girls Volleyball team had such an awesome high school volleyball season! The girls attended five tournaments in the fall of 2010 playing all around the East Kootenays. This is a team of character. These girls are dedicated to their sport. The entire bantam girls team has now joined the East Kootenay Volleyball Club that is a high profile volleyball club that promotes excellence in the game and does it by having fun! The girls will travel to Calgary, Cranbrook and then the big trip to Edmonton where they will compete against teams from all over Alberta and the East Kootenays! The extra time they will receive playing this great game by attending the club volleyball matches will sharpen their skills and further promote life long involvement in this sport.
“We had a season of volleyball last year that was second to none in terms of bonding together”, says Eck Trask, coach of both the bantam team and the upcoming EKVC club team. “ I have never seen a team that was so together, so supportive of each other. I’m not really surprised that the whole team decided to play club due to this closeness, however, it is very rare to see”.
Many of these girls also have learned commitment by training in other sports such as figure skating and swimming where there is a deep and personal level of sacrifice in order to succeed. “ It’s a lot of fun working with outgoing and dedicated young athletes. I look forward to the upcoming club season.” Trask says.
To get ready for club, many of the bantam girls will be working with the grade 6 and 7 girls that are interested in volleyball each Thursday in February at the Rec Plex from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. It’s a free program and open to all girls at the elementary schools. This sharing of knowledge and the love for the game will ensure many more years of strong volleyball for our future Golden Secondary School teams and will guarantee a lot of future fun for the girls!
