Bantam reps rock zones

Terrace’s bantam rep team hosted zones last weekend Feb. 26, and took the title with back-to-back victories over Smithers.

Because of a lack of representation in the area for the bantam division, Terrace was up against its only competition of the season, Smithers.

Game one was in the morning and resulted in a 4-1 win for Terrace, another 5-1 victory over Smithers later that afternoon sealed the deal, and the zone win.

It was a great team effort,” said coach Jesse Schroeder. “Everyone had a role to play and they were able to fulfill their roles.”

Second vice president for Terrace minor hockey, Terri Soucie, congratulated the Bantams on their zone win,

The bantam team had only Smithers to compete against but stayed strong and disciplined to win the league and zones.”

The bantams will now be representing the northwest at provincials, which are set to take place in Smithers March 20- to 25.

We are thankful that we’re only going two-and-a-half hours down the road,” Schroeder said.

He is not worried about the lack of competition this season hampering the team at provincials.

Schroeder said the team has travelled to four out-of-town tournaments this year and won two of them.

Provincials for the bantam division are set to see around 12 teams this year. The players will be coming from all areas of B.C., as well as one team from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

It should be a great opportunity,” Schroeder said.
