The Sun Valley Source for Sports Vipers doubled the host Penticton Vees 4-2 to claim gold in Bantam Tier 2 hockey tournament play on Sunday.
Dawson Chase and Reed Cashato led the way with a goal and assist apiece, other singles going to Coleton Bilodeau and Jason Shaigec.
Matt Kowalski, Brady Marzocco and Stephane Richard added helpers as the Vipers avenged a 1-0 loss to Penticton in a Kelowna tournament final last month.
Keith Chase’s Snakes went undefeated in round-robin action, doubling Calgary 4-2, slamming Semiahmoo 9-0 and outgunning Pursuit of Excellence S2 10-3.
Earlier Sunday, the Source for Sports crew dismantled Campbell River 14-1 in the semifinals.
Knights golden in Winfield
In Pee Wee Tier 4 action, the North Okanagan Knights were also golden as they bounced the Summerland Jets 8-3 in the championship game of a Winfield tournament Sunday afternoon.
Eli Dwyer paced the Knights with a four-goal effort, singles coming from Brett Zbytnuik, Griffin Evans, Bryan Brew and Michael Kormany.
Thomas Burton and Caedon Bellman shared weekend goaltending duties.
The Knights jumpstarted the tournament with a 4-4 draw against the Revelstoke Grizzlies.
Brandon Matvenko and Brew scored to make it 2-2 after one period.
Dwyer and Evans pegged North Okanagan to a two-goal lead, but the Grizz equalized in the final frame.
Kormany turned the hat trick as the Knights pummelled the Prince George Cougars 10-2 Saturday night.
Wesley Graves (2), Dwyer (2), Kevin Thomas Walters, Zbytnuik and Easton Hunter also found the net.
In Sunday’s semifinal, the Knights overcame an first-period deficit to ice the Kelowna Rockets 5-1.
Matvenko, with a deuce, Dwyer, Huber and Kord Haller handled the attack.
Prince George perfect in Vernon tourney
Prince George went 5-0, including a 3-2 win over Okanagan Hockey Academy in Sunday’s final, to win the Vernon Home Building Centre Vipers Midget Tier 1 tourney at Civic Arena.
Vernon finished the tourney on a high note, stopping Juan de Fuca 5-2 Sunday.
Cole Woodliffe (2), Hayden Chase, Jagger Williamson and Jeff Bochon all scored in support of game MVP Austin Goss, who made 37 stops.
Vernon split its Saturday games, starting with a 5-1 decision over Fort St. John in the morning.
Williamson (2), Scott Latwat, Lee Springer and Nick Higgs took care of the offence.
Woodliffe scored once as the Vipers bowed 2-1 to the North Shore Winter Club that night.
Coke boys fifth in Abbotsford
In Midget Tier 2 play, the Coca-Cola Vipers finished fifth in an Abbotsford tournament.
Tristan Quiring earned the shutout and collected an assist as Vernon blanked Prince George 2-0 in the tourney opener.
Carl Main (assists to Eamonn Miller and Kaden Black) and Jack Pawsey (assist to Quiring) scored for the Vipers.
Black and Brenden Zupp each scored twice as the Snakes drew the host Hawks 5-5. Main added a single.
Braden Gilowski, Josh DeCoffe and Miller found the net for the Coke Boys as they fell 6-3 to the Sunshine Coast, missing the semifinals.
In the fifth-place game, Vernon thumped Whitehorse 8-2, offence coming from Zupp (2), Pawsey (2), Logan Imrich, Gilowski, Main and Miller.
Louis Springer and Quiring were both strong in net for the entire tournament.
Despite falling 3-1 to Kamloops in Pee Wee Tier 1 action Saturday at Kal Tire Place, Watkin Motors Vipers’ head coach Sandy Moger called it their “best game to date.”
The Vipers outshot the Blazers and had two goals disallowed, while one of Kamloops’ snipes hit the crossbar. Eric Noren, firing from the slot on a pass from Rowan Miller, supplied Vernon’s offence.
Snakes shut down Warriors
In Atom Development play, Teja Sheldrake posted the shutout as the H&L Glass Vipers shaded the host West Kelowna Warriors 1-0 Sunday at Jim Lind Arena.
It was close only on the scoreboard as Vernon outshot West Kelowna 36-9.
Nick Noren, Maddex Minard, Liam Leibel, John Spraggs, Adam Bourgeois and Brock Holliday all enjoyed solid scoring chances for Vernon, but it was Cash Anderson who finally solved the West Kelowna keeper.
Chris Bond won the draw back to Liam Remple at the right point. Remple’s bomb hit Bond, but Anderson jumped on the loose puck and buried the backhand winner.
A tower of strength on the blueline, Remple picked up Vernon’s Hard Hat Award.
The Valley Wood Remanufacturing Vipers collected a pair of Atom Development exhibition wins over the Kelowna Chiefs last weekend, starting with a 6-3 win Saturday morning at Kal Tire Place.
Short a few players, d-man Isaac Thomas stepped up big-time for Vernon. His first goal was on a tip in front from a blast by Jace Weir. He then added two more, both assisted by Steel Quiring.
Jakob Jones, the first on an end-to-end rush, scored twice for the Vipers, and Zac Funk had one.
Sunday afternoon at Prospera Place, Vernon rallied from two goals down to earn a 9-3 win.
Goalie Owen Swiscoski made some good saves to hold his team in the game.
This time it was Jones pocketing the hat trick, with other offence coming from birthday boy Owen Palfreyman (1+3, game MVP), Austin Roest (2), Quiring (2+1) and Bennett Kuhnlein.
Lakers tame Wildcats twice
The Vernon Lakers earned a slice of redemption by grounding the host Kootenay Wildcats in female Bantam A hockey league action last weekend in Nakusp.
Facing the team that eliminated them from their home tournament last weekend, Vernon held on for an 8-5 win over the Wildcats in the opener.
Missing Mairyn Tucker, Emily Williams and Marika Munroe, the Lakers took a 5-2 lead into the third period, but the Wildcats equalized with 6:32 to play. Samantha Head, who finished with 4+1, and Andie Kaneda scored to seal the win.
Emily Clarke (2+2), Abbey Magnus and Halle Higgins Wilson also scored for Vernon, who got three helpers from d-man Tylee Cooper.
In the second tilt Sunday, the Lakers took another early lead and then fired three quick third-period snipes to earn a 7-3 result.
Kaneda (2+2), Clarke (2+1), Jenna Fletcher (1+3), Head (1+2) and Higgins Wilson rounded out the scoring off helpers from Carly Southam, Julia McCaig and Brook Berube.
