Williams Lake barrel racers gathered Saturday to take part in a barrel race and food and toy drive at the Trail Riders Arena.
The weather, however, held back a few participants from coming out, but those who did were so generous in the amount of donations they brought with them, said organizer Jaime Macdonald.
Danaya Rankin had the fast time of the event with a 13.8-second run, while seven other barrel racers also took home both money and prizes.
Macdonald said for the first time the event has been held, it was greatly supported by sponsors Healthy Awakenings, The Beaded Barrel Racer, and several out-of-town sponsors.
“Food and toy donations will be donated to the local Salvation Army, which is in great need, especially during the holiday season,” Macdonald said.
“The race was a great way to come together to help those in need.”
