The Border Battle lived up to its billing, and Barsby got the better of Ballenas.
The John Barsby Bulldogs defeated the Ballenas Whalers 24-14 on Friday night in AA varsity high school football action at NDSS Community Field.
The game was tied 14-14 in the fourth quarter, but the ‘Dawgs scored a go-ahead touchdown and then added a field goal to take the game.
“There was a couple highs, a couple lows, but in the end we came through with the ‘W,'” said Steen Rasmussen, Bulldogs tailback. “[It was] just a mentality thing. Channeling our intensity and make sure we were on a constant energy level.”
He scored one touchdown and Zach Taylor scored two for the Bulldogs and Philipp Eberhardt added the field goal, from at least 25 yards out.
In other B.C. high school football action Friday, the Nanaimo District Islanders shut out Spectrum 27-0 on the road.
GAME ON … Both local teams are on the road next weekend. Next home action for the Bulldogs is Oct. 19, when they face the Argyle Pipers at 4 p.m. at NDSS field. Next home action for the NDSS Islanders is Oct. 26, a 5 p.m. game against Eric Hamber.
