It isn’t quite playoff time yet, but the stakes are high for the Barsby Bulldogs.
John Barsby Secondary School’s AA varsity ‘Dawgs are getting ready for a road game Friday, Nov. 3 against the Argyle Pipers that will have post-season implications.
If Barsby wins, it gets to start the playoffs with a home game. If the Bulldogs lose, they’ll have to begin the playoffs with a lengthy road trip to the B.C. Interior.
“The crucial weeks are coming up,” said Rob Stevenson, Bulldogs coach. “I consider [this] week a playoff game and we’ve got to battle. We’ve got to battle our inner selves at practice and then go out on the field and battle our opponents and rise.”
The ‘Dawgs are coming off a lopsided loss against the Windsor Dukes in Nanaimo last week in which the home team played uninspired football and the visitors controlled the pace, the coach said.
“A great football team played what I think was probably their best game of the year, which was a real sign of respect…” Stevenson said. “We’ll put it behind us, realize there’s teams out there that can do that if you’re not playing your ‘A’ game.”
