The Barsby Bulldogs juniors are into the final four in football playoffs.
John Barsby Secondary School’s junior varsity football team won its quarterfinal matchup in a 57-8 blowout against the Pitt Meadows Marauders on Wednesday at Merle Logan Field.
“It was good. It had been 21 days since our last football game and we had some rust in the first quarter, some communication issues, that kind of thing,” said Rob Stevenson, Barsby coach. “Fundamentally we were very sound and as the game progressed, you could see us getting back into the mental groove.”
Quarterback Isiah Calliou threw for three touchdown passes, to Sean Duquette, Felice Toscano and Garrett McAuliffe. McAuliffe, Harman Ahuna, Fabian George and Kaya Saunders scored rushing TDs and Toscano added a pick six.
Barsby will play the G.W. Graham Grizzlies in the provincial semifinals next Wednesday in Burnaby. Graham shut out the Ballenas Whalers 40-0 in quarterfinal action Wednesday in Chilliwack.
Stevenson said semifinal games are always hard to win.
“You’re playing a red-hot football team so you’ve got to bring your A game,” he said.
GAME ON … In other Barsby football news, the AA varsity squad faces G.W. Graham in quarterfinal action Saturday, Nov. 17, at 12:30 p.m. at Merle Logan Field.
