PARKSVILLE — From the desk of Oceanside Baseball prez Mike Parlow a reminder the local association is hosting a coaching clinic tonight (Tues., April 12) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Springwood Park.
All Peewee, Bantam and Midget coaches/asst. coaches/parent helpers are encouraged to attend.
According to Parlow, parents will receive coaching instruction from Terry McKaig.
McKaig is head coach of the UBC Thunderbirds baseball program.
In his 14th season as the Thunderbirds’ head coach, McKaig “is very passionate about developing the game of baseball at the grass roots level with an emphasis on coaches and conducting clinics across Canada.
“The clinics focus on preparing coaches to teach the basic fundamentals of baseball while then being able to execute better practices.”
The coaching clinics begin with an introduction into what makes a good coach followed by specific instruction points on all aspects of the game including pitching, hitting, fielding, running efficient practices, and game preparation.
Clinics will then end with a question and answer period giving coaches an opportunity to interact with McKaig and to clarify or expand on anything covered in the clinic.
