Laces are tied. Hearts are pumping. It’s the second game of the day for these two teams and they continue to bring on their energy. Vancouver Coastal boys took the win with a 73-40 score at Abbotsford Senior on Friday afternoon.
The game immediately had signs of intensive play. Vancouver showed impressive speed on court, leaving Fraser Valley struggling to keep up, trailing 33-15 at halftime. The Fraser Valley coach told his team during timeout that they are panicking and being pressed down, and lets them know that they can do better. The Fraser Valley team slows down and passes carefully, watching their opponents, then scoring a basket. Vancouver, however, kept up the pace, stealing and then striking throughout the game, eventually winning with a lead of 33 points.
“It was nice to see my team do things right and have success.” Vancouver Coastal coach Randy Coutts said following the game.
“My expectations for them is to just come out here and play hard.”
When asked what he felt his team needed to work on, Coutts mentioned that the players always need to work on good, hard defence without fouling, and rebounding as his team is height-challenged.
Vancouver Coastal plays Saturday morning against Vancouver Island-Central Coast while Fraser Valley takes on Thompson-Okanagan in Court B at Abbotsford Senior.
