Vikings triumphed over the Roadrunners as the 2017 Senior Boys Basketball zone champions, after a day-long tight fight this weekend.
On Feb. 25, adrenaline and blood pounded through the veins of players and audience alike in the last two games of the zone championship, with Nechako Valley Secondary’s Vikings battling on their home court against Kelly Road Secondary’s Roadrunners.
Defeating the Prince George team 106-97 during finals, the Vikings lost to Kelly Road earlier that day narrowly by 91-94, and had won their first clash in the tournament 92-64.
Burns Lake’s Lakes District Secondary was the third contender for the zone champion title, losing 43-84 to second-seeded Kelly Road in the tournament’s first game. After the Roadrunners’ loss to the Vikings, LDSS played against Kelly Road again, losing 41-94. The Burns Lake school is selected for sportsmanship award.
