The Battle of Abbotsford is set for the 2A senior boys volleyball provincial semifinal, and the winner of today’s big game gets a shot at the provincial title tomorrow.
The MEI Eagles and Abbotsford Christian Knights clash at 3 p.m. inside the Langley Events Centre today for a shot at the provincial crown.
MEI enters the game with a perfect record at the tournament, going 3-0 in pool play on Wednesday. MEI beat George Elliot 2-0 (25-19 and 25-15), defeated the Knights (25-19 and 25-18) and then edged Langley Christian 2-1 (16-25, 27-25 and 15-11).
The Eagles then beat Prince Charles 3-0 (25-10, 25-15 and 25-15) in round one of the playoffs and took down Surrey Christian 3-0 (25-22, 25-16 and 25-21). Both of those games occurred on Thursday.
Abbotsford Christian, the defending provincial champions, struggled in the round robin with losses to Langley Christian (2-1), MEI (2-0) and George Elliot (2-1).
But the Knights turned it on when the playoff round began, beating Sir Charles Tupper 3-1 (25-16, 25-10, 21-25 and 25-18) and then defeating Pacific Christian 3-0 (27-25, 25-21 and 25-19).

The winner of MEI vs. ACS plays the winner of Langley Christian vs. George Elliot tomorrow at 7 p.m. The losers play for third place tomorrow at 3 p.m.
The only other Abbotsford team competing at the provincials is the Yale Lions in the 3A senior boys tournament. The Lions went a perfect 3-0 in pool play, but then fell to Riverside in round of the playoffs on Thursday and also dropped a playoff game to Fraser Heights earlier today. The best the Lions can hope for now is 13th in the province.
