Bayside’s president honoured by City of Surrey

Longtime sports advocate and volunteer Stephen Black recognized at Dec. 3 event

South Surrey resident – and longtime member of the Bayside Sharks Rugby Club – Stephen Black has been honoured by the City of Surrey for his years of commitment to sports in the city.

At the fifth annual Surrey Sport Volunteer Dinner Dec. 3, Black was recognized for his years of volunteer work in the sports community – since 1971 he’s been involved in soccer, baseball, lacrosse and rugby.

He’s best known around the Peninsula for his work with the Bayside Rugby Club, where he’s served as a player, coach, manager and executive member. He has also managed Fraser Valley regional teams and been a director of rugby for ViaSport (previously PacificSport).

He is the past-director and vice-chair for the Surrey Outdoor Sport Advisory Committee and is also currently the president of Bayside and a rugby coach at Southridge School.
